Gov. signs immigration bill

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — A bill that will allow South Carolina law enforcement officers to check the immigration status of anyone they suspect to be in the country illegally became law Monday. Governor Nikki Haley signed the bill Monday afternoon at a ceremony at the State House. The immigration checks will have to be made after a suspect has already been detained for another violation. Various groups protested the bill in a news conference following the signing ceremony. One person remarked, “It’s a sad day for South Carolina.”
