Lightning Strike in Columbia

Columbia, SC (WOLO)–Tuesday’s storms proved dangerous in Columbia. Richland County Emergency Services says someone was struck by lightning on Allen Benedict court Tuesday afternoon. The victim’s condition has not been released at this time. According to the National Weather Service your chance of being struck by lightning in the United States is about one in 600,000. If you are outside and a lightning storm approaches, immediately seek shelter, avoid open spaces, crouch down, and avoid proximity to other people. If you are indoors during a lightning storm, avoid water, stay away from windows and doors, and do not under any circumstances use the telephone.
