York County won’t pursue new building for museum
ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) — York County’s Culture and Heritage Museums will no longer pursue building a new facility on 400 acres along the Catawba River and instead will focus on the existing museums.
The Herald of Rock Hill reported (http://bit.ly/n8hanm ) reported that the Culture and Heritage Commission’s seven new leaders said at a meeting last week that plans for a new museum are indefinitely postponed.
The commission will focus its efforts instead on running the museums’ existing facilities: Historic Brattonsville in McConnells, the McCelvey Center in York and the new Main Street Children’s Museum and the Museum of York County in Rock Hill.
The land for a new museum was donated in 1998. But the project hit several obstacles, beginning in 2008, including the loss of a major donor.
