State lawmakers warn seniors about cryptocurrency scams

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– State lawmakers are warning seniors about cryptocurrency scams.

Wednesday morning, March 4, 2026, State Representatives Bill Herberksman and Brandon Guffey along with AARP and law enforcement agencies gathered in support of the Cryptocurrency Kiosk Bill.

The measure aims to protect seniors from scams that officials say often start at kiosks at convenience stores, gas stations, and grocery stores.

Officials say there are now roughly 600 cryptocurrency kiosks operating in South Carolina, many in high traffic locations with little or no on-site consumer warning.
