Haley: Ask GOP candidates the tough questions

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Gov. Nikki Haley says South Carolinians must ask Republican presidential hopefuls tough questions as they pass through the state in the coming months.

Haley said Monday the field of candidates shows this will be the best policy debate ever in a Republican presidential campaign. She made the comments after being asked about the Iowa straw poll.

The Republican governor says residents need to ask candidates where they stand on unions, what they plan to do about the economy and their plans for energy independence.

Haley says she will endorse a candidate before next year’s first-in-the-South GOP primary. But she says she doesn’t know when she will do that. She says candidates need to seek the endorsement of South Carolina voters.
