Coast Guard rescues boaters near Georgetown
GEORGETOWN, S.C. (AP) — A Coast Guard helicopter has rescued two boaters reported overdue near Georgetown in a 15-foot jon boat.
The Coast Guard says it received word about 9 p.m. Tuesday that the Horry County men were overdue. The helicopter, a 25-foot Coast Guard rescue boat and a Department of Natural Resources vessel began searching.
The men, ages 56 and 28, were found in a secluded marsh shortly after midnight Wednesday. They were hoisted to the helicopter and taken to the Georgetown Airport.
The Coast Guard said the fishermen had filed a float plan which helped searchers find them more quickly.
