Cousins killed in head-on crash near Manning

MANNING, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a mother and daughter have died after their car was slammed head-on by another vehicle driven by the mother’s cousin.

Troopers said the wreck happened Monday afternoon on U.S. 521 near Manning.

Investigators say 57-year-old Thelma McDowell was driving a Chevrolet Impala that drifted into oncoming traffic and struck a GMC Yukon head-on.

Authorities say McDowell died, along with the driver of the Yukon, 43-year-old and Ella Williams and her mother, 65-year-old Emma Williams. A 10-year-old boy and 6-year-old girl in the Yukon were injured and taken to the hospital.

Troopers are investigating the crash, and the coroner’s office says McDowell’s body has been sent to Charleston for an autopsy.
