Cops: 2 Darlington school workers hurt student

DARLINGTON, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say two Darlington County School District employees have been arrested after surveillance video from a school bus showed them hitting and pushing a 10-year-old special needs student.

Investigators say a bus driver told school officials about the incident at St. John’s Elementary School, and the school contacted Darlington police.

Authorities say Tomeka Self and Rosanna Dudley are seen on the video hitting the student in the face and pushing him while trying to put on a safety harness. Police say the boy cannot talk and wasn’t aggressive toward the teacher’s aide or the school behavioral manager.

Self and Dudley are charged with simple assault and battery and it isn’t clear if they have attorneys.

Police are reviewing other videos from the bus as they investigate the incident.
