Governor Urges Lawmakers to Vote On-Record

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) –South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is chastising senators for considering what she calls default voting. Haley said Thursday not taking a roll call vote on every section of the 2012-13 state budget would be the most irresponsible thing she’s ever seen. Her public rebuke on the procedural motion became moot minutes later, as the Senate opted not to take up the idea. Before adjourning Wednesday, senators discussed a way around spending hours to record votes on the budget. They mulled recording votes on distinct sections as a “yes,” though senators could go to the podium to vote “no.” Sen. Greg Ryberg presented the idea. But on Thursday, he said he looked forward to staying late into the night to vote. Haley campaigned on roll call voting in 2010.
