King Street Arrests

(WOLO) Columbia, SC-Interim Columbia Police Chief Ruben Santiago announces the arrests of three teenagers charged in connection with a shooting earlier this month. Shawn Eric Moody, Junior (DOB: 1-21-1994) and Tyquan Marquise Williams (DOB: 1-2-1996) are charged with Two Counts of Attempted Murder. A 15-year-old juvenile is also charged in connection with the case. CPD Investigators believe that the trio shot two male victims at the 1100 block of King and Bratton Streets shortly before 2 o‘clock in the afternoon on June 10, 2013. Shots were allegedly fired from the rear passenger‘s side of a car. As a result, one male suffered a head wound; the other was shot in the leg. One of the victims ran to a nearby residence for assistance. A citizen called 9-1-1. Both victims were treated and released from a local hospital. CPD Investigators believe the shooting was gang-motivated. The suspects are all validated/documented gang members, accused of targeting another individual at the scene. It‘s believed that the shooting stemmed from a previous fight involving gang members. Chief Santiago says, “The Columbia Police Department has a specific Anti-Gang Unit that is designed to combat gang violence across the City every day. These officers gather valuable intelligence information and work with the Criminal Investigation Unit and Uniformed Patrol Division to curtail this type of criminal activity. It‘s all about detection and prevention.” CPD also has several youth crime prevention programs in place to steer kids away from gang violence such as the ‘Explorers‘ and Operation R.I.S.K.
