Five Points continues to work to improve safety in wake of shooting

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)–The Five Points Association (FPA) released a statement to ABC Columbia news regarding the continued efforts to improve safety in the wake of Martha Childress’ shooting.

The Five points association says in a statement: It has continued to have many progressive conversations this week, as we have continued our efforts in working towards making our hospitality district safer.

The association went on to say they are pleased with the direction in which action is being taken and they appreciate that Interim Chief Santiago and city staff are in agreement with our reasoning behind not supporting any type of street closure or 2am bar closings.

18 year old Martha Childress was shot by a stray bullet two weeks ago in Five points, she is paralyzed from the waist down. The man accused of the shooting is in custody.

Police, community leaders and USC Students are continuing to call for better safety measures in the Five Points area at night.
