7-Year-Old Killed in Accident
SUMTER, S.C. (WOLO) — The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly collision. The accident occurred at approximately 7:10 a.m. Monday on US Highway 378, one mile west of the city of Sumter. Troopers said a 2006 Mazda, driven by Edward Thomas of Nokesville, VA, collided with a 1995 Saturn, driven by David Cruz of Sumter. A 7-year-old female passenger in the Saturn, who was wearing a seatbelt, became trapped in the wreck and died at the scene. Cruz and another passenger, an 8-year-old, were both injured in the crash and were transported to the hospital. The driver of the Mazda was not hurt. The crash remains under investigation.
