Kicking the Smoking Habit

Columbia, S.C. (WOLO) — Some 20 million Americans die prematurely each year, due to smoking. That’s according to health care professionals at the University of South Carolina. They say CVS’s decision to discontinue tobacco products could be the beginning of changing the way consumers view smoking by making such products harder to come by. Dr. Karen McDonnell in the College of Nursing at USC says making three lifestyle adjustments could put you on a path to quitting for good. First, she says discover why you want to quit. Secondly, talk to your family about that plan. She notes, it’s much harder for a person to kick the habit if others in the household continue to smoke. Lastly, go over your plan with your health care provider. For more information, call 1-800-QUIT-NOW.
