County Council Member, Former City Council Member Face Tax Charges
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Former Columbia City Council member Brian DeQuincey Newman and Richland County Council member Kelvin Washington were arrested Tuesday on tax charges.
The arrests relate to a South Carolina Department of Revenue investigation, officials say.
Both men turned themselves in to investigators Tuesday morning at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

Newman is charged with failing to report over $200,000 worth of income, officials say. He is also charged with two counts of willful failure to file a tax return for tax years 2012 and 2013.
Washington was arrested on three counts of willful failure to file a tax return.
Officials say Washington failed to file South Carolina Individual Income Tax Returns for 2012, 2013, and 2014 and for failing to report over $400,000 of income.
Newman is scheduled to appear before the Honorable J. Cordell Maddox, Jr. Tuesday at 2 PM at the Richland County Judicial Center.
If convicted, both men could faces fines up to $10,000 and/or one year in prison per charge.
