SC State Faces Savannah State in Crucial MEAC Game

SAVANNAH, GA (SC State) — The South Carolina State men’s and women’s basketball team will play their final regular season road game Saturday (Feb.27) when they take on host Savannah State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference(MEAC) doubleheader at Tiger Arena.
Tipoff is 4 p.m. for the women, with the men following immediately afterwards in a 6 p.m. start.

The Bulldogs (16-12 overall, 11-3 in the MEAC) are 2nd place in the conference race with two games remaining in the regular season. South Carolina State leads the series, 18-11 over Savannah State (12-13 overall, 7-6 in the MEAC) and is seeking to avenge and early season, 60-57, loss. However, SSU has won nine of the last ten meetings over the Bulldogs.
Three Bulldogs are in double-figures with junior guard Eric Eaves leading with way with 16.8 points (19.2 in MEAC play), and sophomore guard Ed Stephens‘s chips in 13.6. Senior guard/forward Gabriel McCray tosses in 11.6 points, while grabbing 4.7 rebounds. All-MEAC Preseason forward/center Darryl Palmer is the leader on the boards with 6.1 and scoring 8.0 per game.
Meanwhile on the women’s side, the Lady Bulldogs are 11-13 overall, 7-7 in the MEAC, while Savannah State is (8-16 overall, 5-8 in the MEAC) look to square off for the second time this season. The teams meet earlier on the hardwood with the Lady Bulldogs coming away with a 56-43 win in Orangeburg, S.C., on Feb. 13.
Jasmine Coleman led SCSU with 11 points and six rebounds against SSU, while Ashleigh Outler added nine points and Toni Grier added eight points and six rebounds.
The Lady Bulldogs are led by Brittany Drumgoole with 9.3 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. Amber Howard is second with 8.8, while Jasmine Coleman and Ashleigh Outler each are averaging a little over 7.0 points per outing.
