Police: Swansea Man Sought in Theft of $26K Worth of Lawn Equipment

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) – Deputies with the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office are asking for the public’s help in locating a Swansea man wanted for allegedly stealing lawn equipment worth more than $26,000.

Authorities say 33-year-old Gene Rutland Jr. of Swansea, is facing a charge of grand larceny after he stole a John Deere zero-turn mower and a 2014 Polaris Ranger 800FS from a Cordova home on August 1.

The John Deere mower has been recovered; however, the Polaris is still missing, police say.

The owner of the equipment allegedly told police said he left it on his property when it began to rain and when he returned several hours later it was gone.
