Deputies: Man wanted for attempted robbery of local convenience store, hits store clerk with a crate

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) – The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying a man wanted for assaulting a convenience store clerk during an attempted robbery.

On Feb. 1, around 12:10 a.m., a man walked into the Corner Pantry in the 8000 block of Farrow Road and rushed at the cashier, forcing her behind the counter. After the suspect demanded money from the register, the cashier reached for a cordless phone to call 911.

But the suspect ripped the phone out of her hands, grabbed an empty food crate from the ground and hit the clerk with it about four times. The suspect then fled from the store with the phone and the crate.

The suspect is described as a man of a slim build, about 5-feet, 2-inches tall, weighing around 110 pounds. He was wearing blue jeans, a red shirt, a black leather jacket with fur around the hood and a beanie at the time of the incident.

Anyone who can identify this man is asked to call Crimestoppers at 888-CRIME-SC.
