Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Reaches Record High

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is the most abundant and the most important green house gas. It does a good job of trapping heat in the atmosphere. It’s measured in molecules of CO2 per million molecules of air. That’s referred to as parts per million. This month the concentration of CO2 has reached a dubious milestone. It’s now at 415 parts per million. That makes it the highest ever in human history. Scientists estimate that last time that the atmosphere had that much CO2 was at least 3 million years ago. At that time, the earth was a very different place – with sea level at least 50 feet higher. Without some sort of huge breakthrough where somehow we can extract this CO2 from the air, sea level will return to that level – it’s only a matter of how long. This is not good news…
