Local Living: Amore under the Stars at the Museum and Free Fridays at the Zoo

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– In our look at Local Living, the South Carolina State Museum Foundation announced the return of Amore Under the Stars on Valentine’s Day.

According to organizers, the after-hours fundraising event will be held Tuesday, Feb. 14 from 6 – 9 p.m. Guests are invited to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a romantic evening that includes a live musical performance from the ColaJazz Little Big Band, a special tour through the museum galleries, a one-of-a-kind planetarium show, night sky observing and more. Proceeds go directly to support educational programs at the museum, say officials.

Tickets for Amore Under the Stars are $80 for general public and $60 for museum members. Tickets include event activities, food from Anna Cline Catering, a souvenir Champagne flute and two drink vouchers. Additional beer, wine, Champagne and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. Planetarium shows are first come first served based on capacity.

If you live in Lexington or Richland County you can head to Riverbanks Zoo for the return of Free Fridays.

According to officials with Riverbanks Zoo and Garden, they have kicked off the New Year with the return of Free Fridays. Residents of Richland and Lexington Counties, with proof of residency, can enjoy free admission on Fridays in January and February. (A valid ID or property tax statement will be accepted).

All other guests will be charged regular admission, according to the Zoo.

“Free Fridays is our way of thanking the residents of Richland and Lexington Counties for their continued support,” said Thomas K. Stringfellow, president and CEO of Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. Riverbanks relies on support from the community to help feed and care for the animals and maintain vital park operations.”

You can also see the latest addition to Riverbanks Zoo. According to the zoo, a meerkat pup was born December 5 and began exploring its outdoor habitat shortly after Christmas.
