Partin, Bray dispute origin, circulation of campaign postcards
Cayce, S.C. (WOLO)–There is a war of words in the race for Cayce mayor, specifically words on a post card.
The town’s current mayor, Elise Partin is accusing her opponent, Abbot Bray and his campaign of circulating post cards designed to look like they came from her and deceive voters.
Partin says, “This is clearly a dirty political trick designed to confuse voters. It appears to have been sent to Republican voters. It certainly has some similarities to a similar ploy used against a County Council candidate three years ago, including the fact that it was mailed with a stamp. Because of those similarities – and the potential illegality of anonymous spending — I’ve forwarded copies to the state Ethics Commission. And I’m urging Cayce voters to beware of last-minute dirty tricks and any anonymous information they might receive in the final days before the election. I contacted the Ethics Commission on Monday, and issued a statement today after noticing my opponent and his supporters actively circulating the cards on social media.”
ABC Columbia News reached out to Bray for a response, he says, “The bottom line is not only did I have NOTHING to do with that defamatory mailer, neither did my campaign team. I’ve reported it to SLED for investigation. I’ve reported another attack on me a while back (with the same design motif) to the Cayce Police Department. It’s incredulous that my opponent is trying to call this a false flag. You being in the media should be able to read through people’s posts. I would love for you to note that she denounced the tactic but she didn’t denounce the message. If I had to guess, that is/was the entire goal.”
The Cayce mayoral election will be held on November 7th.
