Columbia, S.C. (WOLO)– US Attorney Adair Buroughs says the US Dept. of Justice awarded $482,804 to support Project Safe Neighborhoods in South Carolina.

Buroughs says the funding will support community efforts to address gun violence.

The grant will be divided between the Richland Co. Sheriff’s Department and three other agencies throughout the state.

Officials say Project Safe Neighborhoods is a key component of the Justice Department’s Comprehensive Strategy for Reducing Violent Crime

“Our office is committed to working with our law enforcement partners to combat violence in our communities,” said U.S. Attorney Boroughs. “The projects selected this year illustrate the value of combining community policing with the latest technology and investigative techniques to keep our neighborhoods safe. We are proud to work with these agencies.”
