Murdaugh attorneys call for change of venue

Columbia, S.C. (WOLO)–Attorneys for Alex Murdaugh are asking that their client’s future proceedings be moved out of Beaufort County.
Murdaugh’s defense team filed the request for transfer Monday morning.
The attorneys site what they call “unprecedented” media coverage of Murdaugh’s trial for the murders of his wife and son.

The motion reads in part, “Defendant’s trial on murder charges was broadcast live to multiple media outlets and seen by millions. The trial concluded in March of 2023 and since then there have been two docuseries dedicated to the trial and two movies about the defendant have been released.

Defense attorneys are seeking a new trial for Murdaugh, alleging the clerk of court committed jury tampering in the first trial.
