COLUMBIA SC (WOLO) – The lights get turned on at Riverbanks Zoo starting Friday…with a twist.  Riverbanks Zoo spokesman Matt Perron says that the traditional “Lights before Christmas”  returns, but with a new name and new concept.

Wild Lights features lighted creations, “inspired by nature.”   Perron said that guests will find nearly 60 “larger than life” lanterns throughout the Zoo.  Perron does point out that many fan favorites including visits with Santa (until the 23rd of December, since he had a prior commitment), carousel  and train rides, hot cocoa, and nightly snowfall.

Wild Lights will glow from 5pm-9pm on select nights November 17 through January 14. Advance registration is required for all Riverbanks members and guests. Tickets go on sale November 1; rates vary by night, starting at $20 for adults (ages 13 and up) and $15 for children ages 2-12. Children younger than 2 are free. Beginning November 6, 2023, through January 14, 2024, Riverbanks will close daily at 4:00pm; the Zoo will reopen at 5:00pm each night of Wild Lights.
