Police: Habitual offender charged with DUI resulting in death

According to police, Chelsie Pittman is charged with Felony Driving Under the Influence Resulting in Death and Habitual Offender Causing Death.

Irmo, S.C.(WOLO)–Irmo police have charged a 31 year old woman in connection with a fatal crash on Lake Murray Blvd.
Investigators say the crash happened around 10pm Thursday night.
According to police, Chelsie Pittman is charged with Felony Driving Under the Influence Resulting in Death and Habitual Offender Causing Death.
According to the coroner, 34 year old Jennifer Wingate of Columbia was traveling westbound on when she was struck from behind.

In a statement, Irmo Police Chief Bobby Dale says, “Unfortunately, someone has lost their life because of Pittman’s senseless actions.DUI is not a victimless crime. With the availability of ride share applications, taxi services and even calling a friend, there is absolutely no excuse to get behind the wheel impaired. Because of Pittman’s poor decision, we have two families whose lives are changed forever.”

She died at the hospital.
Pittman was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center.
