Protecting your pipes when the temps drop
Tyler Ryan learns about ways to protect your pipes when temps drop way below freezing
COLUMBIA SC (WOLO) – Temperatures this weekend will be very cold, with highs in the upper 30’s and overnight lows in the teens. Although 32 is the freezing point, pipes aren’t at a big risk if it is only for a few chilly hours leading to sunrise, however, it is a different story when it gets THAT cold.
John Strong from Pulliam Restoration gave Tyler Ryan a couple tips to help protect your pipes, including turning a faucet on to a light stream. Strong says this will help keep water moving throughout the coldest periods. He also suggested opening up cabinet doors so that warmer air can get into the area and help keep pipes warmer. If you have exposed pipes outside your house or building, or have a water heater outside, Strong suggests wrapping or insolating.
