Sumter man arrested after allegedly contacting child through online video game

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A Midlands man was charged after a minor’s parent contacted Sumter County deputies about their child possibly being approached by an older man, said the sheriff’s office.

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office says they discovered that the man got in contact with the child through an online video game.

Witness testimony and video evidence led deputies towards Brian E. Dean.

On the evening of Wednesday, March 13, sheriff’s deputies arrested Dean and charged him with second degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

He was taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center and was given a $50,000 surety bond and required to have no contact with the victim or family, and wear a GPS monitor.
