Makeover Monday: The Fountain of Youth may have been discovered

Tyler Ryan learns about the secrets if injectable fillers from Sculpted by WH Aesthetics

COLUMBIA SC (WOLO) – Since the days of Ponce De Loen, The Fountain of Youth has been an elusive lady…but fast forward 500 years or so, and we may be getting close in the form of injectable fillers.  Often referred to a Botox, (much like Kleenex is a brand of tissue paper), that brand and many others have given us the ability to take a few miles off our collective faces.  The question, however, is how do they give us years back.

According to Whitney Huttenlocker, who along with her husband Moe own Sculpted by WH Aesthetics on Lady Street, they are a neuromodulator. “Basically it attaches to the muscle and it prevents the muscle from being able to contract. That contraction over time is what causes it,” Huttenlocker says.  By causing a temporary paralysis in the skin, the lines, often in the forehead and around the eyes,  wrinkles are suspended…for at least a couple months.

Moe points out that more and more, younger people, who haven’t even developed wrinkles yet, and “getting stuck.”  Moe says that it is about “preventative maintenance. Because once that static line, which means at rest, once it’s there, it’s tougher to get rid of. But if you start preventing early on, stay fresh.”

Whitney says that there are several different types of injectable, including the well known Botox, but there are things like Dysport, Daxify, and others that are carried at many spas, including Sculpted.

As far as the timeline, getting injectables is a pretty simple and fast process, that can be done over a lunch break.  She says that the initial visit can take  a touch longer, just to go over paperwork, but once you return for a refill, it can be as short as 15 minutes.

The Huttenlockers also point out that although injectables have traditionally been something that has been popular with women, more and more men as also taking a few moments to themselves, and hoping to find a new look…including this guy, who has been a user for years.

There are also medial uses for injectables, including helping with migraines.
