Think you can outrun a RCSD K-9? You’ll have 5K to try

RICHLAND COUNTY SC (WOLO) – For the 13th time, the community will join Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott and his K9 Unit for a little nighttime run to raise money for the program.

The Guardian’s of The Night K9 5K has become a much looked ahead to event, growing from about 100 runners 13 years ago to over 650 this year.  Along with the opportunity to meet some of these K9 Officers and their human partners, much of the Sheriff’s Departments equipment and resources will be at fairgrounds for the community to get an up close and personal look at.  “If it has blue lights, it will be there,” says Sgt. Warren Cavanagh of the K9 Unit.

The money that is raised at this annual event is put into the Sheriff’s Foundation and ear marked for the K9 unit, and utilized to provide many of the needs of the Team that are not in the annual budget, including food, vet bills, bulletproof vests, training and more.
