Federal judge leaves short-term pause on Trump Administration’s federal funding freeze
(CNN)– A federal judge is keeping her short-term pause on the Trump Administration’s order to freeze all federal grants and loans.
During a hearing on Thursday, Feb. 20, U.S. District Judge Loren Alikhan said the pause is in place while she considers a more lasting block.
The case was brought by a group of nonprofits last month just before the order took effect.
An attorney for the plaintiffs argues the restraining order is working because funds have been freed up, but says the court still needs to intervene.
The Trump Administration’s order has caused confusion and worry among states, charities, and other entities about critical funding.
The judge said she will rule on the motion for a preliminary injunction soon.
Meanwhile, a separate case in Rhode Island has been brought by Attorneys General from 22 states and D.C.
They’re also requesting a preliminary injunction, arguing that the freeze is ongoing.
The judge overseeing that case plans to hold a similar hearing on Friday.
