2-year-old victim of house fire in Pelion identified by coroner, cause of death revealed

PELION, SC (WOLO) — Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the 2-year-old girl who died in a house fire that occurred in the 500 block of Canal Drive in the Pelion area of Lexington County shortly after 2 a.m. on March 15.

According to Coroner Fisher, Remede Prigden, of Gaston, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Monday, March 17, autopsy found that the child’s cause of death was due to smoke inhalation.

The incident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, and the Lexington County Coroner’s Office.

According to the Lexington County Fire Service, firefighters were dispatched to a residential structure fire around 2 o’clock Saturday morning.

After finding the home fully engulfed in flames, additional units were called to assist in the rescue.
