Two Charleston County women found dead in Sumter County identified, investigated as homicides
SUMTER COUNTY, SC (WOLO) — Two female victims found on Richbow Rd. in Sumter County are being identified by the Sumter County Coroner’s Office, with both deaths being investigated as homicides.
The victims are 35-year-old Christine McAbee of Charleston County, and 38-year-old Kristen Grissom of Charleston County.
Coroner Robbie Baker says the victims were found around 1 p.m. on August 8th after a landowner discovered the bodies in a clearing. A citizen who discovered the remains met deputies upon their arrival. Sheriff Anthony Dennis joined investigators as they processed the scene.
Investigators say the victim’s bodies appear to have been placed at the location.
Sheriff Dennis says the incident appears to be isolated, and there is no known danger to the public.
Coroner Baker says both ladies’ autopsies will be performed on Tuesday at the Medical University in Charleston to determine their deaths.
According to the coroner’s office, Grissom’s autopsy did not reveal any physical trauma, and the cause of death will be pending until a toxicology.

REMBERT, S.C. (WOLO)– Sumter County deputies are investigating after two female bodies were found Friday afternoon near a rural road in the Rembert area of Sumter County, say officials.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to the area due to a report of a body in the area on Friday, August. 8.
While on the way to the scene, deputies got notified there were two bodies at the scene, says SCSO.
The bodies will be taken to the Medical University of South Carolina for autopsies by the Sumter County Coroner’s Office in order to determine the causes of death and identify the deceased.
“We have begun our investigation, and we will have to wait until we have the results of the autopsies to know more. In the meantime, we cannot speculate. At this time, we can only say we are investigating these deaths as suspicious,” Sheriff Dennis says.
