USC welcomes 5,000 new freshman on move-in day

COLUMBIA SC, (WOLO) — The University of South Carolina rolled out the garnet carpet for its freshman class on Saturday.

Residence halls across campus welcomed the over 5,000 new students as they moved into their new dorms and met their roommates.

According to U.S. News and World Report, USC has he nation’s top 1st year experience among public colleges.

ABC Columbia spoke with USC’s Collyn Taylor about the school’s goal of having the smoothest move-in day possible.

“There’s a group of about 20 leaders across campus that meet monthly beginning in September for the move-in the next August. So we’re constantly evaluating what worked the year before, what didn’t, what we can improve on. All sorts of stuff, whether its traffic patterns, whether it’s bins, whether it’s signage, whether it’s communication — so it’s truly a university wide initiative,” he says.

A week of events will take place for the new Gamecocks to help them adjust to their new on-campus life.
