Proposal for casino gambling in SC advancing in the State House
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– A proposal to allow casino gambling in South Carolina is advancing in the State House.
The bill includes an amendment outlining how casino tax revenue would be distributed to veterans services, conservation programs, and local counties.
Supporters say the plan could generate recurring revenue without raising taxes by capturing money currently spent in neighboring states.
But opponents, including faith leaders and community members, say they’re concerned about the social consequences of casino gambling, such as increased crime and suicide rates.
The bill is on the House calendar and may be debated in the near future.
