5 arrested following weekend Whitmire incident

NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Newberry County deputies say five people were arrested following an incident in Whitmire over the weekend.

According to investigators, the suspects who are all known gang members were attending a party at the Whitmire Community Center.

A deputy pulled over a speeding vehicle which smelled like marijuana and saw a gun, say law enforcement.

Authorities say the vehicle then left when another vehicle rammed a deputy’s patrol car.

And one of the suspects pulled a gun but was quickly disarmed.

No law enforcement officials were injured.

The five suspects captured face multiple charges, while deputies are searching for 25-year-old Jonathan Thompson.
