23-year-old Columbia man charged with murder

LEXINGTON, SC (WOLO) –According to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, a Columbia man is charged with murder after a fatal shooting Saturday afternoon.

Twenty-three-year-old Latif Shi’Yon Elijah Ross  is charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and possession of a weapon by a person prohibited, according to arrest warrants.

“Deputies were dispatched to an apartment complex off Fernandina Road right before 1:00 yesterday afternoon,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon says. “They found a man with multiple gunshot wounds,” he added.

Deputies say they attempted lifesaving measures, but the victim was declared deceased by EMS, according to Koon.

“After speaking with witnesses, detectives determined Ross was arguing with the victim before shooting him,” Koon says, adding, “Ross then left the scene and was arrested by deputies Sunday morning.”

Ross is being held in the Lexington County Detention Center.
