SC State University held law enforcement summit

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)–SC State University held a law enforcement summit with 20 representatives from state and local law enforcement and emergency agencies ahead of the fall semester.

This summit took place after deadly on-campus shootings happened in October of 2025, following homecoming celebrations.

And another shooting that happened in February of this year which left two people dead and one wounded.

The university says ensuring student safety is paramount by strengthening partnerships, and how those partnerships will support large campus events like football games.

The university also released a list of its public safety priorities some of which include, additional police officers, K9 assets, special weapons and tactics units, as well tv and bicycle patrols.

SC State officials say it will begin an effort to put fencing around Hugine Suites, and eventually the entire campus.

Also the university is continuing its search for a new campus police chief which is nearing completion, according to the school.

Associate Vice President of Campus Safety and Security Leevaine Williams says, “we’ve got to have enough manpower at all places,”

“having roving patrols and rapid response forces is going to be a game changer for us.. as well as the canine support teams.”
