SC State Fair to have sensory friendly morning

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– As fair season in Columbia is coming up, there will be a quieter day for all residents to enjoy.

Fair officials say on Thursday, Oct. 22, during Exceptional Citizens Day there will be a Sensory Friendly Morning from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Lights will be lowered and sounds will be quieter to help create a calmer, more welcoming fair experience for guests who may benefit from reduced sensory input.

List of things that will be done and open on sensory morning:

• Select kiddie rides will be open. You may ride these rides during this time. Regular ride fees apply.
• Select kiddie rides will operate without music or flashing lights.
• Buildings will be quieter places to visit.
• Food vendors will begin serving.
• Quiet walking acts will begin.
• You may visit the Petting Zoo.
• American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation services will be available. They can be found in Guest Services.
• You may bring noise-canceling headphones or other comfort items.

SC State Fair officials say once you hear the National Anthem over the speakers at noon, this means the fair will get louder again.
