Catch THE COMET for free to vote on Tuesday November 3

COLUMBIA, S.C.(WOLO)– As Election Day nears, the Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority (The COMET) is making it easier for residents to vote.

The COMET will be available for free round-trip transportation to and from polling locations on Tuesday, November 3.

Eligible riders may use The COMET’s fixed-route buses and DART services free of charge for round-trip transportation to cast their ballot on Election Day.

“Transportation should never be a barrier to civic participation,” says Maurice Pearl, Executive Director/CEO of The COMET. “By providing complimentary round-trip transportation to polling locations, The COMET is helping ensure that every eligible voter has an opportunity to cast their ballot and return home safely and conveniently.”

Riders can plan their trip by downloading and using the Transit App or by using the trip planner on The COMET’s website.

For more information regarding routes, visit www.catchthecometsc.gov/routes or call 803.255.7100.

Older adults and individuals with disabilities may also call 803.255.7123 for DART services and should specify that they are traveling to their polling location to vote.

DART appointments must be made in advance and are based on availability, according to officials.

“The COMET is proud to support voter access across the Midlands,” says Tish Dozier Alleyne, Chair of The COMET Board of Directors. “Providing free rides on Election Day reflects our commitment to connecting people with opportunities and essential community resources. Voting is one of the most important ways residents can make their voices heard, and we are pleased to help make that process more accessible.”

Voters can verify their registration information, polling location, and election details by visiting www.scvotes.gov.
