RCSD deputies investigating after child found with knife at school

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Richland County Sheriff’s Department is investigating after a 11-year-old brought a knife to a middle school Monday morning, says RCSD.

On November 2, 2026, around 2 p.m., the SRO of Dutch Fork Middle School was notified by school administration that a knife was reportedly inside the book bag of an 11-year-old student.

The SRO learned that the child was in class when a teacher was informed by another student that a knife was allegedly in the 11-year-old’s book bag, says RCSD.

Also, a school employee took the student and the book bag to the front office where the SRO removed a 3 ½ inch kitchen knife from the book bag.

RCSD investigators responded to the school and spoke with the 11-year-old and their parents.

The student was charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds and released to the parents.
