SRS retirees don’t like health care changes
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Retirees at the Savannah River Site near Aiken don’t like plans by the U.S. Energy Department and its contractor at the plant to change medical benefits.
The State newspaper reported (http://bit.ly/KJ15FJ) that Savannah River Nuclear Solutions says it plans to implement the changes even though it is still meeting with members of the retiree association.
The newspaper reported that younger retirees will pay more for health care. Retirees over age 65 will be moved to Medicare.
Andy Cwalina with the Savannah River Site Retirees Association says the company is balancing its checkbook on the backs of retired workers at the old nuclear weapons plant.
Jim Hanna with Savannah River Nuclear Solutions says the company has approval to make the changes and intends to do so.
