SC insurance firms back WWII vet flight with $50K

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Two South Carolina insurance firms are pledging nearly $50,000 to support a November flight taking 100 World War II veterans to view the memorial built in their honor in Washington, D.C.

The firms known as PGBA and InStil Health said Wednesday they are jointly backing the Nov. 7 flight from Columbia.

Spokeswoman Elizabeth Hammond says the trip comes four days before Veterans Day. It will include about 60 volunteer assistants to help the elderly military veterans visit the World War II memorial on the National Mall.

Hammond says PGBA and InStil work with military veterans through TRICARE, the U.S. military’s health care program for active-duty and retired service members and their families.

The firms also are working with the Honor Flight group, which has sponsored trips for veterans since 2008.
