Myrtle Beach publisher takes top job in Charleston
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — The publisher of The Sun-News in Myrtle Beach is leaving that newspaper to become the new publisher at The Post and Courier of Charleston.
P.J. Browning announced Thursday she will head to Charleston in August to work alongside current publisher Bill Hawkins, who will retire at the end of the year.
Browning has worked in newspapers for 28 years, serving as publisher at the Centre Daily Times in State College, Pa., and The Telegraph in Macon, Ga., before moving to Myrtle Beach. She also worked at newspapers in Carlisle, Pa., Asheville, N.C., Grand Rapids, Mich., and Springfield, Mo.
Browning says it was a hard decision to leave The McClatchy Company, but she has admired The Post and Courier and its commitment to quality journalism for a long time.
