Lexington Star Picks Gamecocks

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Steve Spurrier hasn’t won an SEC championship at South Carolina, but he continues to recruit the state’s top high school players. Saturday Lexington star Shaq Roland verbally committed to play his college football for the Gamecocks. Roland announced his intentions to play at USC on his Facebook page. Roland is widely considered the state’s top football prospect and is also a highly coveted basketball player. He projects to play wide receiver in college but has played quarterback, running back, receiver and defensive back in his stellar high school career. Roland is the fourth #1 prospect in South Carolina in a row to pick the Gamecocks joining Stephon Gilmore, Marcus Lattimore and Jadeveon Clowney.
