Murder Trial: Alex Murdaugh’s brother testifies in court
The Alex Murdaugh murder trial continued this morning in Colleton County.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)—The Alex Murdaugh murder trial continued this morning in Colleton County.
Both the defense and prosecution teams expect a verdict by the end of this week.
The defense only had three witnesses to present today, but made a request to the judge this morning before the jury came in.
Attorney Dick Harpootlian requested that the jury be allowed to go to the Murdaugh’s Moselle property where the murders occurred to get a visual of the crime scene.
While prosecuting Attorney Creighton Waters was opposed to this, Judge Clifton Newman granted this request and says the jury will be allowed to go to the property.
When the jury did enter the courtroom, the defense spent the morning calling up two crime scene experts who contradicted some of the findings of the SLED agents who testified for the state.
One forensic pathologist believes the investigators skipped over what could have been a major piece of evidence.
After lunch, the defense called its final witness, Alex Murdaugh’s brother, John Marvin.
The state is expected to present a new reply witnesses but says their case will be wrapped up by Wednesday.
Once both sides have presented their cases, we will hear closing arguments before the jury retires to deliberate.
