Lakes Marion and Moultrie undergoing water plant treatment

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — If you are planning to take a trip to a local lake, you may want to check this out first. Starting on September 17, two local lakes will undergo treatment for water plant growth. Santee Cooper says helicopters will be applying herbicide to lakes Marion and Moultrie to reduce hydrilla, water hyacinth, and crested floating heart. The electric company is asking visitors to avoid the following areas in order to allow them to treat the lakes effectively: Lake Moultrie (Berkeley County): Sandy Beach WMA, Angel‘s Landing to Quattlebaum‘s Landing, Cross Subdivision, West Dike area near The Hatchery WMA Upper Lake Marion (Clarendon County): South of Elliott‘s Landing, Mouth of Santee River near Channel Marker 176, East of Elliott‘s Landing near Coca Cola Slough Lower Lake Marion (Clarendon County): Upper end of Potato Creek Embayment, Santee National Wildlife Refuge – Bluff Unit, Cuddo Unit and Pine Island Unit
