New Free Program Teaches Kids How to E.S.C.A.P.E

(WOLO) COLUMBIA,S.C. — We have seen in played out here in our area with cases like the Gabbie Swainson disappearance, children being abducted and families and police searching endlessly to find them. Columbia Police chief Randy Scott is introducing a new initiative to help keep your children from becoming a victim. The program is called E.S.C.A.P.E ( Educating Students and Children on Anti-abduction and Protection Essentials). While children learn specific techniques they can use to be more aware of potentially dangerous situations and how to fight back if they have to, parents will learn how to help their children stay as safe as possible. Program Coordinator officer Lance Adams says the classes will cater to kids ages 5 to 12, since they tend to be the most vulnerable. They plan to begin the first class October 27th from 10 in the morning to 1:30 in the afternoon at Hyatt Park (927 Jackson Avenue). Eventually, Columbia Police plan to host these free events at every city park. The schedule for those upcoming events are underway.
