Benedict Men’s Basketball Team Earns Top Seed In SIAC Tournament

ATLANTA (Benedict SID) — The Benedict College men’s basketball team has earned the top seed in the SIAC East Division and will have a bye until Wednesday in the 2016 SIAC Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament.
The conference office released the official tournament brackets on Friday. The Tigers will play at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday against the winner between Fort Valley State University, the fifth seed from the East, and LeMoyne-Owen College, the fourth seed from the West. Fort Valley and LeMoybe-Owen will face off at 4:45 p.m. on Monday.
Benedict, the defending SIAC Championss, captured the top seed after Stillman defeated Morehouse College on Thursday night. Benedict has won one Eastern Division title, five regular season championships, and five conference tournament championships under the direction of Fred Watson.
The tournament will be held at the Bill James Arena in Birmingham, Ala.
The 2015-16 Tigers went 16-11 overall and 11-7 in conference.
The winner of Wednesday’s game will play at 3:15 p.m. on Friday in the semifinals. The championship game is set for 7 p.m. on Saturday.
