Part of Interstate 20 in Kershaw County closed Sunday

traffic-alert22.jpgCAMDEN, S.C. (AP) – Officials are closing part of eastbound Interstate 20 in Kershaw County this weekend to lift an 18-wheeler out of the Wateree River.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation said it will close the eastbound bridge over the river at 5 a.m. Sunday to bring in heavy equipment to lift the trailer and rig from the water and tow it away.

DOT officials say the road will be reopened once the work is done, which should take about six hours. A detour will be posted that will bring drivers through Camden on U.S. Highways 1, 601 and 521.

The truck crashed over the bridge and fell into the river during a rainstorm on May 1. The driver was rescued.
