Lawmakers Call for McBride Resignation, Director Refuses

Columbia, SC (WOLO)– The majority of members of the Richland County Legislative Delegation want Lillian McBride out. Eleven of the sixteen members of the delegation signed a petition calling for elections director Lillian McBride to be removed from office. Richland County Representative Todd Rutherford was one of the signers he says something needs to be done. “The debacle that happened on nov 6th was unexplainable it was certainly avoidable we’ve heard no apology that is acceptable to us. Certainly something need to be done her resignation is the first step in that process to make sure this never happens again.” The petition also called for McBride to resign by 4pm Friday afternoon. McBride’s attorney John Nichols, responded to the petition by saying quote…”We have received the resolution published by members of the Richland County Legislative Delegation and appreciate the sentiments the members express therein. However Mrs McBride will not be tendering her resignation by 4pm today (Friday) to “the Richland County Board of Elections and Voter Registration”. According to the state attorney general the board has the authority to remove its director. Acting board of elections Chair Allen Dowdy Dowdy announced Friday he will schedule a meeting of the board as soon as possible but due to the upcoming holidays…that would most likely not be possible until January 2nd or 3rd.
