CONWAY (COASTAL SID) – De’Angelo Henderson wasted no time in becoming the all-time NCAA Division I leader by scoring a touchdown in his 28th consecutive game to lead #17 Coastal Carolina to 49-10 victory over Florida A&M Saturday night. Coastal Carolina is now 11-3 in home openers and the crowd of 10,037 was the fifth largest in Brooks Stadium history.

On CCU’s second possession, Henderson became the school’s all-time leading scorer (now 302 points, passing Josh Hoke’s previous mark of 297 set from 2003-06) while tying the CCU record for career rushing touchdowns, a mark Aundres Perkins set from 2003-06. On the first drive of the third quarter, Henderson broke Perkins’ record with an eight-yard score, his third of the game and 47th of his career. Overall, the senior finished with 13 rushes for 128 yards and three scores. He has now rushed for at least 100 yards 20 times in 43 career games. The next closest on the CCU list is Baltimore Raven Lorenzo Taliaferro with nine from 2012-13. (Note: Taliaferro started 15 games in 2013 season, Henderson’s freshman season.)

Coastal Carolina’s defense forced a punt on the opening drive — a short punt that gave CCCU the ball on the FAMU 45. Henderson had four rushes for 38 yards, including a 17-yard score to set the record. (NOTE: Danny Woodhead, who played at NCAA Division III Chadron State, owns the NCAA all-divisions record by scoring a TD in 38 straight games.)

The Chants pushed their lead to 15-0 their second drive. Josh Stilley, who was 16-for-22 with two touchdown passes, found Devin Brown for a 22-yard gain and Henderson capped the drive with a seven-yard touchdown. Osharmar Abercrombie scored the 2-point conversion for CCU’s 15-point advantage. Coastal has now been successful on 26 2-point conversions in the Joe Moglia era with 14 of those being rushes.

Coastal grabbed a 22-0 lead late in the first quarter. Coastal once again only needed 45 yards after a Rattler punt that Chris Jones returned 31 yards, his second 31-yard punt return of the season. Stilley completed a 17-yard pass to Omar Black and a 10-yard pass to Bruce Mapp. After a 19-yard run by Abercrombie, Stilley scored his first career touchdown with a two-yard scamper around left end.

For the second time in as many weeks, Richie Sampson had an interception and long return, but Coastal was unable to capitalize as Florida A&M intercepted a Stilley pass on the next play. The Rattlers’ drive stalled and Henderson put the Chants in scoring position with an impressive 22-yard run. Two plays later, Stilley connected with Devin Brown for an 11-yard touchdown and 29-0 CCU lead. While Brown is CCU’s career leader with five kickoff returns for touchdowns, this marked his first career touchdown reception.

Florida A&M got those seven point back quickly. After a 27-yard kick return, Devin Bowers broke a 70-yard rushing touchdown to make the score 29-7.

However, the Chanticleers bounced back to take a 36-7 lead midway through the second quarter. Stilley hooked up with Bruce Mapp in the left corner for Mapp’s 15th career receiving TD.

As the third quarter began, Henderson had a 23-yard rush to break the 100-yard barrier and later finished the opening drive of the half with a five-yard touchdown to give Coastal a 42-7 lead.

Coastal pushed its lead to 49-7 with 7:17 left in the game. Kenneth Daniels had a 23-yard rush and 11 plays later reached paydirt from 10 yards out to give the senior his first career touchdown.

Florida A&M took advantage of a bad snap and drove 26 yards in two plays. A touchdown was called back due to a penalty on the Rattlers and FAMU eventually had to settle for a 35 yard Austin Miler field goal to provide the 49-10 final.

With the win, Coastal Carolina improves to 22-1 all-time versus schools from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, including a 2-0 mark versus Florida A&M. CCU will end the 2016 season by hosting MEAC member Hampton (Nov. 26).

Coastal Carolina plays at Jacksonville State next Saturday (Sept. 17). Kickoff is in Jacksonville, Ala., and set for Noon (ET)/1:00 pm (CT).
